"Brazil Visa Center in Shanghai would like to inform applicants/agents:

According to the requirements of the Brazil consulate in Shanghai, applicants who are not from Shanghai jurisdiction area are required to have their non-criminal record authenticated by Brazil consulate/embassy before submission.

A Work Visa is required for foreign citizens with work permit previously approved by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Brazil (MTE) and the National Council on Immigration (CNIG). The Brazilian employer/institution is responsible for obtaining the required work permit (http://portal.mte.gov.br/cni/).

Who is eligible for a Work Visa:

  • Lecturers, teachers, instructors, researchers and technicians who will work at public or private institutions under a work contract;
  • Providers of services of any nature (please check if you qualify for the technical assistance and technology transfer Visa) ;
  • Providers of services to the Brazilian Government, according to an international agreement of which Brazil is party;
  • Foreigners who will undertake work of any kind, under a work contract signed with a Brazilian private or public institution;
  • Trainees and interns (professional training), even if they receive payment abroad;
  • Professional training, even without a formal employment contract;
  • Crew members and other oil/gas specialists providing services within Brazilian waters;
  • Crew members aboard a fishing vessel chartered by a Brazilian company;
  • Crew members aboard a cruise ship operating in Brazilian waters, other professionals performing paid activities aboard cruise ships along the Brazilian coastline, the Amazon river basin or other inland waterways;
  • Professionals enrolled in medical residency programs at private or public institutions, hospitals and clinics accredited by the Ministry of Education of Brazil;
  • Professional athletes and performing artists who will receive payment for their work.

Please be reminded that a legalized/apostilled birth certificate translated in Portuguese should be presented while registering at the Federal Police Station in Brazil

Photo Specifications

All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.

The Photo shall:

  • Be in sharp focus, clear and with appropriate brightness and contrast
  • be printed on high quality photo-paper with high resolution
  • be in colours with white background
  • be 40-50 mm in width
  • Should be recent and no more than 6 months old
  • full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
  • show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
  • show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes

Regarding glasses:

Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.

  • the glasses cannot be coloured
  • the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
  • there cannot be reflection in the glasses

Regarding head-dress:

Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.

  • Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
  • Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed

Processing Time

Processing time varies depending on the type of visa and is entirely at the discretion of the Embassy / Consulate. Applicants applying as part of a group may have a lengthier processing time. Please plan your visa application well in advance to your intended travel date to avoid any disappointments. Usually it takes about 10 (ten) working days, after submitting all documents fully in compliant with the Embassy / Consulate requirement.

The estimated processing time does not include:

  • The time an application is withheld by a travel or visa agency;
  • The time the applicant takes to provide additional information/documents required by the Consular Section;

Visa Form: The online visa application form is available at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br. The application form should be filled–out online and the Visa Application Receipt (RER) should be printed out. The visa application form expires one month after it was filled out;
